Dive Description
North Dry Rocks is located just northeast of Key Largo Dry Rocks and is marked by three mooring buoys designated with the letter "N". The reef itself stretches between mooring buoys N1 and N2. The reef is not very big, but has almost everything that Key Largo Dry Rocks has to offer with the exception of the Christ of the Deep Statue. If you are not interested in seeing the statue, North Dry Rocks is a beautiful little getaway from the heavy diving traffic at Key Largo Dry Rocks. Unlike Key Largo Dry Rocks, you will find yourself alone most of the time you go diving at North Dry Rocks. You might have to share the reef with one or two other dive parties when it gets busy, but that is rarely the case!

The reef itself is a little maze of large limestone ledges that come up to 5 feet below the water surface. In the central portion of the reef you will find a minnow cave for which this little reef is famous. Hundreds of glass minnows are always seen swarming around near the cave entrance. Groupers and the great barracuda are also regulars on this reef. With patience and a good eye you will certainly encounter Florida's spiny lobster hanging out underneath ledges and in crevices. Unlike most of the reefs in the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, North Dry Rocks is NOT designated an SPA [Sanctuary Preservation Area] and fishing as well as lobstering is allowed. With the appropriate fishing or crawfish permits, divers can have a beautiful day diving, while also catching their dinner!
